Last night I saw “The Help”…

with my mom and my sister. I just want to blog about it because it was GREAT. There were a couple main themes present in the movie (racism, segregation, religious belief, etc) but I want to mention one theme that does not get any attention in the trailer, which is GENDER EQUITY! The main character, Skeeter (Emma Stone), is a total feminist, and its awesome! Skeeter has grown up in a wealthy white neighbourhood in Mississipi. All of the people who play important roles in her life (minus a nanny) have tried to press the traditional societal rules about the way a women should dress and act. Skeeter’s character is awesome cuz she doesn’t give a shit about those rules. She doesn’t care about having a husband or tea parties or nice dresses. She wants to be a journalist in NYC. Fuck yeah!
